Hello there! Are you looking for a quick round-up of this week’s latest releases in the vast and interesting world of music? Well, say no more, my dear friend, because you came to the right place! Welcome to The Weekly Playlist where you can get your dose of new music.

The last week of April was a very good one for new songs. We have Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, OneRepublic on this list, but there are plenty out there. It was a good week for new albums as well and Humanz from Gorillaz is my top pick. So, let’s see what the past week had in store for the music consumers, besides what I mentioned already.

  • New albums

Gorillaz – Humanz

Back in 1998, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett started this project called “Gorillaz” which turned into a huge phenomenon. Gorillaz are a band of 4 animated characters who have been playing and making music for quite some time now – their debut album was released in 2001. Well, in fact, it’s only the musician Damon Albarn who’s behind their music, but those are just details. The 4 fictional characters released their fifth studio album a few days ago – Humanz – which is a neverending EDM party and the overall theme of the album is the aftermath of a world-changing event (fingers pointed at the American elections, although Albarn said that there is no direct reference to that in the songs because Trump doesn’t need any more publicity than he already has). The tracklist consists of 20 songs and there are various artists featured. You can find three songs from the album on their official YouTube channel and here’s one of them.

Lady Leshurr – Mode

The English rapper Melesha O’Garro aka Lady Leshurr, known best for her freestyle rapping, has just dropped a new EP – Mode. Her voice and songs sound very much like Nicki Minaj’s, so those who are fans of Minaj will like this EP for sure. Leshurr’s signature references to social media trends are very present in the 6 songs from the tracklist, starting with the title track which features a snippet of the famous phrase “Cash me outside, howbuh duh?”. Here’s the music video for ‘Juice’, one of the songs from the EP.

Foster the People – III

III is the latest EP from Foster the People, released ahead of their third album which is set to be released later this year. The EP consists of three indie pop songs which will be featured on the upcoming album as well. The songs can also be found on their official YouTube channel and here’s one of them.

  • New songs

OneRepublic – ‘No Vacancy’

One Republic have just dropped a new song which is something different than what we were used to from the band, but nonetheless entertaining and with a summerish vibe. I’d say it’s quite like Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’. Ryan Tedder, the frontman of OneRepublic, actually admitted that it’s “the poppiest thing” they have ever done. Anyway, I think the song has the potential to be a summer hit, a song you’d listen to at a beach party or in the car, while you’re going on an adventure.

Imagine Dragons – ‘Thunder’

Ahead of their forthcoming album which the band has been teasing fans about since last September, they released ‘Thunder’ which is set to be featured on the album, along with ‘Believer’, which was released earlier this year. After listening to these two songs, I think it’s fair to say that the album will be great.

Fall Out Boy – ‘Young and Menace’

‘Young sand Menace’ is the first song to be revealed from the band’s seventh album M A N I A which will be released in September this year. This song has bits of dubstep and electronic sounds and it’s quite different from the rock/punk style from their previous music projects. While waiting for the band to reveal more songs from the upcoming album, check out the music video for ‘Young and Menace’.

  • Special videos

Tinie Tempah and Jake Bugg – ‘Find Me’

Tinie Tempah and Jake Bugg perform an acoustic version of ‘Find Me’ on Oxford Street in London. ‘Find Me’ is one of the songs from Tempah’s recently released album. I think this was a great idea, although very random, and they actually sounded very well even though they weren’t backed up by any other instrument.

DNCE ft. Nicki Minaj – ‘Kissing Strangers’ (Lyric Video)

The lyric video for ‘Kissing Strangers’ is so cute it had to be mentioned here and because it’s not really the official music video, I thought I might include it in this section. The video is awesome because it features the Internet sensation, Doug the Pug, and many other cute dogs. Each member of the band and Minaj are played by a dog and Doug the Pug, as the main guest appearance, plays as Joe. It’s just awesome!

The Lumineers – ‘The Ballad of Cleopatra’

Cleopatra is The Lumineers’ second album which was released last year. ‘The Ballad of Cleopatra’ is a short film which features five songs from the album, four of which already had a video. The short film tells the story of Cleopatra which is a character inspired by a real woman who missed out on marrying the love of her life. It’s a very sad and beautiful story that’s worth watching, all of this while listening to The Lumineers’ songs.
