Hello there! Are you looking for a quick round-up of this week’s latest releases in the vast and interesting world of music? Well, say no more, my dear friend, because you came to the right place! Welcome to The Weekly Playlist where you can get your dose of new music.

I think the God of Music was quite generous last week, especially with the new albums, but there are also new music videos on this list which are pretty cool and some interesting song covers. So, let’s see who is featured on the Playlist this time. Enjoy!

  • New albums

A quick note before we begin. Although it’s not part of the actual Playlist, I wanted to mention that Jay-Z also released a new album last week which is his 13th album! That’s crazy! It’s called 4:44 and many people talk about it so maybe you want to add it to your “to-listen” list.

ZZ Ward – The Storm

If you’re looking for new rock music, you might be interested in ZZ Ward’s new album which was released this week. It has 11 tracks and I quite like all of them apart from one which is too sad for my taste. Overall, I think ZZ Ward did a good job with this one and I love her confident voice throughout the album. You can find all of the songs on her official YouTube channel and I added here my favourite one from her album.

Calvin Harris – Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1

Since Harris released the first song from his fifth album a few weeks ago, it was clear that his new album will be different from what we were used to. But that isn’t a bad thing. Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 came out last week with 10 songs on the tracklist. They’re all laidback and chill, perfect for a relaxing moment. There are many artists featured on the album such as Frank Ocean, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Big Sean and more. Something for everyone, I think. So, if you want to check it out, you can find the songs on Harris’ YouTube channel.

I’ve mentioned TLC in a previous Weekly Playlist where I said this album is the last one the R&B group will ever release. Here’s another fun fact: they haven’t released a new album in 15 years. So, this one is a comeback and a good-bye at the same time. Very sad. I like the songs on the album, they have that TLC vibe from when I was very young, although it’s obvious their style’s changed. I think this is a good final album.

  • New music videos

Nick Jonas ft. Anne-Marie, Mike Posner – ‘Remember I Told You’

The music video for ‘Remember I Told You’ came out last week and, I might be wrong, but I think they had a lot of fun filming it. It’s in black and white and it starts with Nick Jonas surrounded by models. Promising start, isn’t it? It continues with a series of shots of himself and the models and then Anne-Marie and Mike Posner join the fun as well and the party continues. Take a look!

Kendrick Lamar – ‘ELEMENT.’

Lamar revealed a new music video for ‘ELEMENT.’ which is a song from Damn, the album he released in April. He also released music videos for ‘HUMBLE.’ and ‘DNA.’ taken from the same album, so it makes me wonder how many songs from the tracklist will get a music video. Anyway, I think this video is similar to the one for ‘HUMBLE.’ in a way and I liked it! Take a look!

The Killers – ‘The Man’

Now, this is what I call a very cool video and the fact that it’s centred on Brandon Flowers (member of The Killers) makes the video even better. So, just like the lyrics of the song, the video also highlights the problem of narcissism. We see Brandon Flowers in different situations and in each, he acts cocky and very confident at first. The problem is his attitude turns the situations against him in the end and that gets him into trouble.

  • New mashup covers

Imagine Dragons – ‘Believer’/’Thunder’/’Whatever It Takes’ (Sam Tsui Mashup Cover)

I think combining these three songs was a brilliant idea. I mean, the three of them are hits on their own, but what would happen if you mix all of them. You get a triple hit, am I right? Sam Tsui did a good job, but he doesn’t have that rough powerful voice of Dan Reynolds, the lead vocalist from Imagine Dragons. So, what I’d really like to hear is this mashup sung by Imagine Dragons themselves. That would be something!

Rihanna, Bryson Tiller – ‘Wild Thoughts’/Santana – ‘Maria Maria’ (William Singe Mashup Cover)

This is an interesting combination of songs and I’m kind of digging it. I mean, obviously, ‘Wild Thoughts’ will surely be covered by many YouTubers out there in the next few weeks, so Singe probably wanted to stand out and do a mashup instead. Good thinking and good job.

Luis Fonsi, Justin Bieber – ‘Despacito’ (Giselle Torres Cover)

I’m pretty sure there are only two types of people in this world: those who like ‘Despacito’ and those who like it but don’t want to admit it so they say it’s a stupid song instead. So, for those who like ‘Despacito’, here’s a cover which I found by mistake. Unlike the previous two, it’s just a normal cover, but I think it’s pretty good. And it also comes with some sort of music video in which these kids dance and there’s a dance battle between girls and boys. You should take a look.
