Hello there! Are you looking for a quick round-up of this week’s latest releases in the vast and interesting world of music? Well, say no more, my dear friend, because you came to the right place! Welcome to The Weekly Playlist where you can get your dose of new music.

We’re three weeks through the month of April and one week through the final term of this academic year (exciting times!). This week brought plenty of new songs and music videos from known artists and some pretty cool remixes of popular songs. Here are the ones that made it on my list. Enjoy!

  • New songs

MØ – ‘Nights With You’

Back in 2014, the singer and songwriter, MØ, released her first album ever. It’s been a while since then and that left fans hanging and being more and more impatient about her sophomore album which is yet to be officially announced. ‘Nights With You’ is the first release in 2017 from the Danish artist and it’s believed to be one of the tracks from her upcoming album. The song has a carefree vibe, although it’s quite different from what she used us with, and the lyrics are about her best friend, as MØ said in an interview.

Charlie Puth – ‘Attention’

Charlie Puth dropped a new single this week and to make things more interesting, he decided to promote it through a pop art project called ‘The Attention Room” which is located in Los Angeles. The project is a LED illuminated tunnel which replicates the human brain reaction to attention with the song ‘Attention’ playing in the background. You can find the official page of the project here.

Shawn Hook ft. Vanessa Hudgens – ‘Reminding Me’

Vanessa Hudgens hasn’t released new music for 4 years, but her featuring in Hook’s new song changes everything. The lyrics of the song encapture very well the sadness of a long-lost love and the voices of the two singers go very well together. This comeback of Hudgens left fans hoping for more new music from her in the future.

  • New music videos

As I said before, plenty of artists released music videos this week and because I couldn’t fit them all here, I made a YouTube playlist with all of those which caught my eye. Down below are my favourite three and you can find the rest here.

Gente de Zona – ‘Si No Vuelves’

For the latino music lovers, this video is exactly what you’re looking for. This week, Gente de Zona released a new music video and as most of their videos, this one is good fun and, along with the song, it has a really summerish vibe. We get to see sequences of the Cuban duo and their band performing, a choreography to fit the song, and all of this while the video follows a storyline about a guy who’s searching the town for his love. Spoiler alert: he finds her in the end and they all start dancing (and they lived happily ever after).

Hurts – ‘Beautiful Ones’

Since the release of their third album in 2015, we haven’t heard much from the British duo. This week, however, Hurts released a brand new song and a very meaningful music video with a powerful message. The video tells in reverse the story of a gender-fluid person who becomes the victim of three men in a club. The video is a “celebration of individuality” as the duo stated and it aims to raise awareness of the LGBT violence.

Zedd, Alessia Cara – ‘Stay’

The long-awaited video for the popular song ‘Stay’ was released this week. One of the best things about Zedd is that he is one of the very few who doesn’t use sexuality in his videos. In this one, Zedd and Alessia Cara stay at the same hotel and from there we are showed two possible scenarios, one in which they meet and one in which they don’t. The video follows these two possibilities and, sadly, neither ends well.

  • New remixes

Just like song covers, remixes of songs give people the chance to see different sides of a song and sometimes they turn out better than the original. For this week, the up-and-coming DJ and music producer, Alan Walker, remixed Bruno Mars’ popular song ‘That’s What I Like’ and gave it his signature twist. A chill version of  Bebe Rexha’s ‘I Got You’ and a house remix of Major Lazer’s ‘Run Up’ are also featured on this playlist. Take a listen!

Bruno Mars – ‘That’s What I Like’ (Alan Walker Remix)

Bebe Rexha – ‘I Got You’ (BKAYE Remix)

Major Lazer ft. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj – ‘Run Up’ (Wax Motif Remix)
