Voting opens for YUSU Committee by-elections


Voting opens today for YUSU Committee by-elections as students look to get involved with the union’s extra activities and representation groups.

For the RAG Committee by-elections, voting opened on the YUSU website on Monday week 4 (May 14) at 12 noon and will close on Friday week 4 (May 18) at 12 noon.

After nominations closed last week, positions with candidates include vice chair for colleges, secretary, treasurer, sponsorship, marketing and PR, raids, events and co-ordinators for RAG Week.

Manifestos and profiles are candidates can be found on the YUSU website.

Some positions received no nominations – vice chair for events, challenge co-ordinator, hitch co-ordinator and hit squad co-ordinator – and will be open to anyone who wants to run at the Open Meeting on Monday week 5 at 6.30pm in V/045.

Anyone wishing to run should read the role descriptions and attend the meeting with a one minute speech prepared.

Voting is also taking place online from May 14-18 for the Volunteering Committee by-elections, with positions up for election including vice chair, secretary, publicity and events officer (option to run as a pair), fundraising and sponsorship officer (option to run as a pair), one off projects officer, projects away officer and three ordinary members.

For any positions filled, there will be a by-election in week 5 and more information about available positions can be found here.

Women’s Committee by-elections will take place on Tuesday, May 15 in P/L/001 at 6pm at the EGM meeting, with positions available including two campaigns co-ordinators, PR & communications co-ordinator, external relations co-ordinator, secretary, trans representative, disability representative and black/minority ethnic representative.

Anyone who wants to run for a position but cannot make the meeting should email or attend weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 6pm to get involved with the committee’s campaigns and setting up their new website.

By-elections for Democracy Committee see the position of ordinary member contested and voting is taking place on the YUSU website from May 14-18.

The by-elections for the Environment and Ethics committee closed in week three and positions filled are a campaigns coordinator, fairtrade representative, secretary, treasurer, press and publicity and an online communications representative.

Full elections for YUSU committees will take place in October at the start of the Autumn term.
