The York National Book Fair is due to take place in the Knavesmire Suite at York Racecourse from Friday the 16th September to Saturday 17th September 2016. The event will be the largest book fair in Europe, and is in its 42nd year.

The event will mostly centre around the buying and selling of antique books, with good bargains promised from 220 leading dealers. Other items on sale at the stalls will include marble paper, bookbinding and calligraphy. Additionally, live entertainment will be provided around lunchtime by “The 2 Bobs”, a well-known local folk duo, who regularly play gigs at The Habit in Goddramgate, York. Local artist, Mark Hearld, has also been involved, as the designer for the logo and tickets.

Janette Ray, an organiser of the Book Fair, urged students to attend, saying: “If you have not been to this event before, please give it a try and buy a book! It is a must for book lovers and for those seeking books, maps and images, indeed all things to do with paper.” She stressed that there were items at a range of prices available, and that there would also be the opportunity to buy items from the town’s second-hand bookshops. Moreover, the CAMRA Beer Festival is being held simultaneously very near to the venue.

The event will also be very accessible, with food provided throughout the day and a free shuttle bus running every 20 minutes from town to the venue.

Tickets can be obtained from the York National Book Fair website.
