York company contributes to opening ceremony of Rio Olympics
A York company will contribute to tonight’s opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games, held in Rio, Brazil.
Stage One, a creative construction company based in York, was commissioned to design and control a catenary, a wire positioned at the top of the stadium to enable aerial performance as part of the opening ceremony.
Tim Leigh, Sales & Marketing Director of Stage One, said:
With an estimated broadcast audience of almost one billion there is considerable pressure to deliver a perfectly executed show. Feedback from rehearsals has been encouraging and we’re looking forward to delivering a perfect performance.
The 2016 Olympic Games take place in Rio from the 5th to the 21st of August. This will be the first Olympic ceremony to be held in South America. Three billion people around the world are expected to tune in to watch the opening ceremony.
