The Yorker celebrates annual awards at the Hilton
On Friday, June 22, members from all sections of The Yorker joined together for a gathering at the Hilton Hotel and received the eagerly anticipated results of “The Yorker Awards.
The journalism awards were judged by York Press Editor Steve Hughes, as well as The Yorker's Aimee Howarth (Editor), Lizzy Pennock (Deputy Editor), and Stef Neylon (Chief Operation Director).
Alan Belmore (Financial Director) and Jason Rose (Marketing Director) judged the business awards.

Editor Aimee Howarth, also winner of “News Reporter of the Year”, stated: “Our Yorker Awards event proved a huge success and was a fantastic end to what has been one of our most successful years ever.
"All our members put in an incredible amount of hard work and commitment and I am so proud of everyone.
"The awards celebrate the people who have done that little bit extra and we had some truly amazing candidates. It was so hard to choose the winners because the standard was so high.
"It was also fantastic to include The York Press in the judging of the awards as we are really developing our links with them and offering great journalism experience and opportunities to our members."
James Tompkinson, Sports Editor and winner of “Section Editor of the Year” was extremely pleased with both his award and the growing success of the Yorker, saying: “I’m really happy to win Section Editor of the Year but the sheer amount of awards and fantastic nominees for every prize shows just how much The Yorker has grown over the last year – bring on 2012/3!”
The Yorker would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in the awards – the event couldn’t have happened without people’s continuing commitment to the media outlet.
