The University of York’s 2016 Freshers’ Week is to feature an event never employed before, Campus Takeover, as its headline campus-wide event, it has been announced.

The scarcity of information about the event, which will take place on Saturday 1st October, available on the University of York Student Union (YUSU)’s website has fuelled speculation about what exactly it will entail. However, it has been revealed that the event will take place in the evening, and will be located in the Vanbrugh Bowl event sight up until midnight, when it will extend its reach to all Commercial Service bars, with each bar hosting a differently themed event, thus justifying the event’s name.

George Morgan, YUSU’s Events Coordinator, explained:

“The reasoning behind introducing Campus Takeover was to keep YUSU’s events fresh and exciting! We strive to continuously evolve and tailor our events to fit with our ever-expanding student demographic. We want to offer an event which is appealing to all – whether that be the music, the food or the activities.”

Alex Lusty, YUSU’s incoming Student Activities Officer, added that:

“The Eco-Stage will be revolutionary; in providing our first ever fully renewable stage, we are pushing the boundaries and making sure that this will be the best YUSU event in years.”

YUSU has teamed up with the university’s colleges to ensure that every student who has purchased a college wristband will have a discount to Campus Takeover.
