James Durcan has become President of the University of York Students’ Union for the 2018/2019 academic year.

Durcan, a former Chair of James College, defeated fellow students Hector Macduff, Has’san Suhail and Oscar Jefferson for the role. Notably, the winner of second-place was the ‘Re-Open Nominations’ vote, following a strong and coordinated RON campaign and the presence of a presidential candidate, Oscar Jefferson, insisting that students voted for RON.

James Hare took Academic Officer, defeating Tomás Vieira Silva to take the role. Hare is one of Nouse‘s Comment Editor alongside Jan de Boer. Hare also becomes the first student from Constantine College, the University’s newest college.

Finn Judge will be the new Activities Officer. Judge, the former Editor of Nouse and a well-known figure among York’s student media, defeated Jack Rewcroft and Jack Worrall to win the role.

Steph Hayle became the Community & Wellbeing Officer. Hayle defeated Rowen Ellis to take the role. Hayle has been involved in the James College Junior Common Room Committee and the Pantomime Society during her studies in Sociology.

Zac Sheppard has won the role of York Sport President. Defeating Ryan Jago to win the role, Sheppard has been involved in the Tennis Club and James College Sport.
