JJ Wilson is running for Union President. He hopes to inspire students to care about student politics and bring YUSU into the digital age.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a 2nd year Mathematics Student, Captain of Vanbrugh Basketball, Social Secretary of MathSoc, Treasurer of Sew Soc and Arts and Culture representative.

What inspired you to run for YUSU president?

Students tend not to care about Student Politics and I hope to change that. I believe that running for President will allow me to do this.

Why do you think you’re the right candidate for the job?

YUSU is one of the fastest growing Student Unions in the country. It needs someone that will be able to continue to let it grow and ensure it doesn’t stop thriving; with my policies I believe that I can do that, and make sure that York stays on track for the success and the respect it deserves.

Which of your policies are you most excited about?

Digital First. It’s time we brought YUSU into the digital age. My Digital First policy plans to do that.

If you could change just one thing about the way the University works, what would it be?

The Finance system, as I’ve mentioned in my manifesto, is currently in dire need of a reworking which is what I plan to do.

Who do you think is your biggest competition?

At this point everyone is a pretty big competitor.

The YUSU Candidates Debate will take place in the Lounge on the 14th February.
