Roz Walton is running for the position of RAG Officer. She is embarking on a charity school-build in Nepal this summer and wants to make RAG as good as it can be.

Tell lly us about yourself.

I’m second year studying English in Education from Langwith College. I’m also lessons rep for the Riding Club and on Langwith Netball team. I’m currently Events Coordinator for the RAG Committee and team leader for Big Build Nepal 2016. There’s 20 of us travelling out to Nepal this summer with Childreach International to rebuild schools that were destroyed in the earthquake last year. Childreach have a ‘Taught Not Trafficked’ campaign in Nepal and keeping children in schools is one of the important aspects of this campaign. The other team leader and I need to support our team with their fundraising, making sure they meet fundraising deadlines and organising group fundraising events- as well as doing my own fundraising for the project

What inspired you to run for this position?

I think it was being involved with Childreach and RAG this year that inspired me… RAG is such a great way of meeting people and having loads of fun as well as making lots of money for amazing causes. This year, I’ve seen that being RAG Officer gives you the opportunity to make this happen for people!

What makes you the right candidate for the role?

Like I’ve said I’ve got experience of fundraising at University so I’ve got first-hand experience of how RAG works and I’ve got loads of ideas on how to make it bigger and better! I want to bring this experience to the role but I’m really open to ideas and want to know what students want from RAG to make it as good as it can be!

Which of your policies would you say you are most excited about?

Ooh that’s hard- all of them! I think it would be having 3 big RAG events each term that everyone on campus knows about such as RAG Winter Ball, Pink Week and Jailbreak. RAG already does some good events but I want make sure there is something for everyone, whether it’s a Bar Crawl, a Big Night In or a physical challenge. I also want to get outside communities involved through RAG Raids to other cities and opening some of our events up to the local community.

Final question, if anyone, who would you want to be President?

I’ve watched their manifestos and they’re all great- I think it’ll be a tough decision but whoever gets it will do a fab job!

Voting is now open and closes on the 19th of February.
