YUSU Elections 2016: Student Activities Officer Candidate – Charlie Watkins
Charlie Watkins is running for Student Activities Officer. He wants to individualise the way that societies work and improve student experience.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Charlie Watkins and I am a 3rd Year Criminology Student who has taken part in Crim Soc, Drama Soc among others and am a 2 year exec member of Lacrosse Club as captain social sec.
What inspired you to run for this position?
When told by a friend of mine who was leaving university that I had made his experience at York a positive one it made me want to strive to make students’ lives here outside academia a positive and easy experience.
Why do you think you are the right person for the role?
I am an experienced, charismatic and sociable guy who is determined to solve any issues put in front of him and will always strive to make every single student happy at York.
Which of your policies are you most excited about?
If I had to say one I would say revolutionising the YUSU app for activities and events so that there is a regularly updating university wide society activity calendar that can be tailored to individuals’ interests, information for each society with contact info can be placed on there so everyone know understands what it is that’s going on around them.
Who do you think is your biggest competition?
They are all great candidates, if anyone maybe Alex, he’s a charismatic guy who’s got a good backing.
If anybody, who are you backing for YUSU President?
Ananna, she’s a determined girl with some really good policies.
The YUSU Candidates Debate will take place tonight at the Lounge.
